2013 SDCC HIGHLIGHTS

San Diego's Annual Comics Convention has come and gone; eBay is being flooded with exclusive collectibles, dozens of women are power-washing the collective nerd stench of athousand drooling basement dwellers out of homemade X-Men themed costumes, and teh internetz is awash with rampant speculation regarding several Nerdgasmic announcements made over the weekend. You could spend hours going over the intricate details of new Legos, new movies, new games, new Lego movies, new Lego games, and new Lego Movie games, but if you're visiting Irreverent News you're probably too lazy to do the legwork to find all the good stuff. I can respect that, and would like to bring you the a quick recap of SDCC 2013's highlights from the perspective of a fellow lazy nerd.

The Simpsons "Jump the Shark"

Not only is there a Simpsons/Family Guy crossover happening, but there's going to be a Simpsons/Futurama crossover too. So It's official, after two decades plus change The Simpsons writers are finally out of ideas. In related news, if you type the word "Simpsons" excessively it begins to look strange and wrong.

Bryan Cranston is Awesome

The acclaimed "Malcolm in the Middle" actor managed a feat of Mission: Impossiblean stature at this year's SDCC, perusing the halls undetected and unaccosted by wearing a mask of his own face.

There's only one proper response to something masterminded so well...

The Walking Dead is still awesome, Go figure

If you thought Cable TV's most watched program was near ending you're DEAD WRONG.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Best comic book adaptation ever?

This post is going to be long enough without me adding in why James Gunn's (director of the excellent movie Super available on Netflix) Gaurdians of the Galaxy movie is going to be fantastic. Just trust me, these pics of stuff from the comic look fucking legit. If you'd like me to go into excess as to why just let me know in the comments.

Korra's second season is going to be Legen-wait for it...

The best cartoon on television (That's right, I said it) is coming back with a vengeance this fall. If you don't know what I'm talking about go buy the Season 1 Blu-Ray or DVD that came out last week. Thank me later.

Oh Ivy, how I've missed you. Welcome back.

Has it really been ten years since the days when I would walk from television to television dominating fools with Isabella Valentine's trusty alchemic Sword-Whip? Time flies when you're playing crummy iterations of a beloved fighting game franchise (Soul Caliber V I'm lookin' at you). I'm looking forward to spanking butts all over again in this one.

Well Hell, Spider-Man's not using it, can't let a good adjective go to waste

I know what you're thinking: "There just aren't enough ongoing X-Men titles nowadays!". Well Good news kids! X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, All-New X-Men, Astonishing X-Men, Uncanny X-Force, Cable and the X-Force, and Wolverine & the X-Men, will soom be joined by Amazing X-Men! And Nightcrawler's coming back! Why? Because feeling any sort of emotional investment in the events of comics, especially a beloved character's noble sacrifice, is fucking stupid! Amirite?

Bone Claws FTW

I've always wondered just what the Hell James Howlett was doing while living in the canadian wilderness with the wolves all those years after the events of 2004's ORIGIN. Looks like ORIGIN II will answer the question. You think he fucked some wolves? I bet he fucked some wolves. Wolverine's sick.

The Return of Tyler Durden

Chuck Palahniuk will be releasing a sequel to his acclaimed novel FIGHT CLUB in graphic novel format. That's a big comic book in layman's terms. Move over Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr.! I've got a new personal hero!

The Phil Coulson Show

So Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is still a thing and I havent awoken from this fantastic dream where a live action Marvel TV show has ties to several live action Marvel movies. They showed the pilot. Joy was had. We can watch it September 24th on ABC.

Peel yourself out of your recliner-refrigerator combo chairs virgins, The Warcraft Movie is happening

Blizzard's Guinness World Record holding MMORPG is finally getting the movie that was asked for like 5 years ago. Maybe, we'll see. Or you'll see, I personally don't plan on seeing it even if it actually happens. Fuck, why did I just waste time posting about this?

Avengers 2: Electric Boogaloo
The title of the Avengers sequel is AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. I think Ultron might be in it. That's all we know right now outside a release window of Summer 2015.

The World's Finest finally arrive

Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen, Man of Steel) will be helming the next Superman movie which will feature Batman. This would be way more impressive if The Avengers didn't already knock the concept of superheroes joining forces out of the park. Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Clark Kent/Man O' Steel along with the majority of the Man of Steel cast coming back. They haven't announced who will wear the Cowl of the Bat yet, but a summer 2015 release is expected.

These are a few of the things about SDCC 2013 The Irreverent News Gang (Working Title) will be discussing in our next podcast. So if you're to lazy to read, or just want to hear nerds geek out then tune in!

...Is that right? Do you "tune in" to podcasts like old timey radio shows? Is there more appropriate vernacular I should use when describing the listening to of Podcasts? Like: "Cast it up!" or something? I dunno, help me out in the comments if you know the answer.
